Challenger removes many barriers to learning music theory while
improving ear recognition in a subtle way. Connections between
intervals, chords, scales and semitone building blocks are also
assimilated while playing the game, because the nature of each
move parallels musical relationships.
Most students
have good ears, but their knowledge of music structures is often
under-developed, and therefore cannot be used to create or
reproduce music effectively. While enjoying the strategies of
Opus 1, players become comfortable with musical labels, and are
constantly associating them with corresponding sounds, allowing
the recognition and construction of interval, chord, and scale
motifs to become effortless while they play.
At the advanced
level, players must negotiate their way through the decoding of
a mystery selection of music from several distinct genres. The
game ends when a player has completed the decoding of this
